From communication tactics to fostering involvement in children’s learning, here are five actionable strategies to elevate parent your parent engagement levels without the use of surveys or constant reminders:
Embrace Open Communication Channels
Communication is key! Establishing transparent and consistent communication channels with parents sets the stage for a strong partnership. Whether it’s through emails, phone calls, or face-to-face meetings, ensure that parents feel empowered to reach out with questions, concerns, or insights about their child’s progress. To make this work, this will be ensuring that the communication methods are those that are the right fit for your families and community, not those that are of most convenience for you or your service. This is often a point of friction which lowers the amount of communication that occurs between families and the educational service.
Encourage Parent Participation
Let’s make our classrooms a welcoming space for parents! Encourage them to get involved in classroom activities, volunteer opportunities, and special events. Their presence not only enriches the learning environment but also fosters a sense of community between home and school. If you’re not finding parent engagement or participation, you will need to consider what the ‘friction points’ are that are preventing parents from becoming involved.
Share Learning Resources
Empower parents with tools to support their child’s learning journey at home. Curate a collection of resources such as recommended books, educational websites, and fun learning activities that parents can easily access and incorporate into their daily routines. Have these resources link back in to the child’s learning program within the learning environments. This will ensure consistency of approach.

These events not only equip parents with valuable insights but also provide opportunities for networking and building relationships with other parents and educators. When hosting informative workshops, remember to remain flexible. Delivery channel, times and dates are all things that need to work with your contextualised local community.

Every parent’s journey is unique. Offer personalised support to parents facing challenges or seeking additional guidance. Whether it’s connecting them with community resources, facilitating support groups, or developing individualised support plans, let’s ensure that every parent feels supported and empowered in their role. Where possible, you should avoid a ‘one size fits all approach’. Equality is everyone getting the same thing, but true equity is everyone getting what they need for the best outcomes for both family and child.
By implementing these strategies, we can strengthen the parent-educator partnership and create a collaborative environment where everyone is committed to the success and well-being of our young learners. Together, let’s empower parents to be active participants in their child’s educational journey!
