New regulations mandate that all early childhood services and childcare centers providing food must prioritise food safety. Students will be completing the single unit of HLTFSE001 – Follow basic food safety practices

All enrolments are for 30 days. Failure to complete your course may result in having to rebook the course at your own expense. At the discretion of Making Education, an extension may be provided of an additional 7 days.

HLTFSE001 – Follow Basic Food Safety Practices

  • To be able to successfully complete each assessment, students must have access to a workplace kitchen environment where they can complete shifts spent working in that kitchen. Students are to organise this within their workplace or equivalent.
  • Access to a workplace supervisor with one of the following qualifications:
    • A manager of a food business; OR;
    • A person with at least 2 years of commercial food preparation experience; OR
    • A Food Safety Supervisor or Head Chef; OR
    • A person with any of the following food safety qualifications:
    • Participate in safe food handling practices (SITXFSA201 or SITXFSA002)
    • Apply retail food safety practices (SIRRFSA001A)
    • Or equivalent.

Students must have access to a digital device and be able to log into our student portal to complete the pre-reading and assessment questions prior to their final supervisor’s report assessment.

All students are required to provide their student details and supply all required information along with their USI prior to completion for a certificate issued if / once the student has been deemed competent. Failure to supply these within the enrolment period may result in the cancelation of your enrolment at the discretion of Making Education.

You will be able to start any time and engage in your learning and study with flexibility around your current schedule.
As part of this online enrolment, you must have access to a workplace that has a commercial kitchen or equivalent and a workplace mentor that is willing to complete a third party observation report on your practices.

Once enrolled, you will have access to our student support team via email or phone.
Phone calls can be made on all weekdays except for all Victorian public holidays.
Monday: 9:00am – 4:00pm.
Tuesday: 9:00am – 4:00pm.
Wednesday: 9:00am – 4:00pm.
Thursday: 9:00am – 4:00pm.
Friday: 9:00am – 4:00pm.
Saturday: No Phone Support.
Sunday: No Phone Support.

Emails may be sent at a time that best suits the learner, and we encourage any student needed support to reach out via email whenever it best suits them. Our student support team will endeavour to reply via email within 48 hours of the email being read.
Please note: Long weekends may affect these response times.

Our trainers will also be there to help you on the day during any face to face study component.

The required amount of online learning depends on the individual learner, however you can expect to complete it within 5 – 10 hours.

To be successful in demonstrating your skills in a workplace kitchen context under observation and supervision by a qualified mentor, you may require either a full day equivalent shift, or three smaller sessions of 1-2 hours assisting.
